One of the most common questions I hear from couples while planning their wedding is, “Do I really need a wedding coordinator?” And honestly, it’s a fair question! On the surface, it can feel like photographers already do a lot: we guide timelines, keep things moving, and help you feel calm and comfortable in front of the camera. But here’s the truth that doesn’t always get talked about enough, a wedding coordinator and a photographer have very different roles, and expecting one person to fully do both usually leads to stress that no one wants on a wedding day. Photographers are amazing at keeping your photo experience flowing and capturing moments as they happen, but coordinating everything else behind the scenes is a full-time job on its own!

A wedding coordinator is the person making sure all the big and small moving pieces come together without you ever having to think about them! They’re managing vendor arrivals, answering questions. Keeping track of timing shifts, cueing ceremony entrances, handling décor setup, and troubleshooting problems before you even know they exist. If the florist is running late, the coordinator handles it. If chairs need to be rearranged, timelines adjusted, or someone needs to be in the right place at the right time, that’s on them. A good wedding coordinator is constantly working in the background so your day feels calm, intentional, and seamless, even when things don’t go exactly as planned. Their job is to protect your experience, reduce stress. And make sure everything looks and feels amazing without you needing to step in.

Your photographer does help your day flow, just in a different way! We guide portraits, help you build a photo-friendly timeline, give direction when needed, and keep things moving during the moments we’re photographing. But we can’t be in two places at once. If I’m photographing your ceremony, I can’t also be lining up the wedding party, fixing décor, answering vendor questions, and watching the clock for your reception entrance. Without a wedding coordinator, photographers often end up being pulled away from what they’re hired to do, capture moments, emotions, and connections, because someone has to step in. And while we’ll always help where we can, that divided focus can mean missed moments or rushed experiences. Having a wedding coordinator allows your photographer to stay present and creative, instead of juggling logistics behind the scenes!

When you have both a wedding coordinator and a photographer, everything just works better together. The coordinator manages the structure and logistics, while the photographer focuses on documenting your day in the most natural, meaningful way possible. You’re not worrying about whether things are done, if vendors are on time. Or what’s happening next, you’re actually present, enjoying your day. This partnership creates space for real moments to unfold without pressure. It also leads to better photos because your timeline has breathing room, transitions feel smoother. And nothing feels rushed or chaotic! Ultimately, a wedding coordinator doesn’t just keep things organized. They protect your peace, your experience, and the quality of how your story is told.

Every wedding is different, but if you care about feeling relaxed, present. And fully supported on your wedding day, a wedding coordinator is one of the most valuable vendors you can hire! They allow you to enjoy your day without stress. And they allow your photographer to do what they do best, capture your memories beautifully and honestly. You deserve a day that feels good from start to finish, not one where you’re managing details or relying on one vendor to wear too many hats.
