Follow the Trends or Stick with the basics

One of the current photography trends that has caught my eye is the 45mm Tilt Shift Look. This technique allows us to control the plane of focus, selectively blurring parts of the image to create a miniature effect or to draw attention to a particular area of the image. It adds a unique perspective to the photography world, bringing a fresh and contemporary approach to capturing life's moments. In addition, showcasing emotions is becoming more prevalent in today's photography. This trend goes beyond capturing a perfect smile; it's about capturing real, raw, and honest emotions. It's about telling a story through the lens and allowing the viewer to feel connected to the image. It adds a depth of authenticity and realness, which is something that resonates strongly with viewers.Lastly, the timeless trend of black and white photography is making a significant comeback. This trend strips away the distraction of colour, bringing focus to the subject and the composition of the image. It creates a timeless and classic feel, highlighting the beauty in simplicity. As a photographer, it's exciting to explore these trends and incorporate them into my work. They offer new ways to capture and tell stories, adding another layer of complexity and creativity to our work. Whether it's using the 45mm Tilt Shift look to add a unique perspective, capturing raw and real emotions, or returning to the classic black and white aesthetic, these trends are opening up new opportunities for creativity and expression in photography.

Photography, as an art form, isn't necessarily about being the first to jump on the latest trends or techniques. Instead, it's about being steadfast and consistent, specializing in what you know and truly love. It's about letting your creative juices flow, pushing the boundaries of your imagination, and thinking outside the box.

As a wedding photographer, the job description goes beyond just taking pictures. The true essence is to capture those timeless moments, those fleeting emotions that would otherwise be lost in the blink of an eye. We are the custodians of those precious memories, tasked to immortalize them in the form of photographs.

Trends, while they can be fun and exciting, should not become the sole focus. Following them can indeed be entertaining, adding a fresh twist to your portfolio. However, it's important not to get so caught up in them that you forget the core purpose of your profession.

Remember, as a wedding photographer, you are not hired just to produce stylish and trendy photos. You are hired to capture the laughter, the tears, the joy, and the love - the raw emotions that make each wedding unique and special.

Trends, you see, are transient. They come and go, replaced by new ones as quickly as they became popular. But photos that capture genuine emotions and memories? They are timeless. They will never go out of style. They will be cherished by the couple, evoking the same strong emotions and fond memories, every time they look at them, even decades down the line.

So, while it's important to keep evolving and adapting to new styles and techniques, never lose sight of your main goal: to capture the couple's love story in the most authentic and heartfelt way. Because, at the end of the day, it's these photos that truly stand the test of time. It's these photos that, when looked at years later, will bring back the rush of emotions, the joy, the love, and everything in-between. It's these photos that will truly last forever.
